[Solved] Rhythm Counting

Hi Estela,

I have always wondered why, when rhythm counting quarter notes, they are not shown as 1 (+) 2 (+) 3 (+) 4 (+), as they include a down and up "movement". Think (+) in the mind.

I believe in your beginner's subdivision video that you suggest this method, as I understand you.

Thanks

Edwin Michael.

Hi Edwin,

Yes exactly. I recommend this method for all beginner and intermediate players as it helps to form better inner rhythm and prevents rushing/dragging. If possible one should always maintain subdivision in the mind while counting bigger beats. For example even while counting half notes, one should keep the quarters notes in the mind. Good observation!
